NOTABLE PEOPLE who were Cruickshanks

1.  John Crokeshanks, burgess of Haddington (this town is east of Edinburgh), who rendered homage to King Edward I (Edward Plantagenet) of England (B1239-D1307), in 1296, on Edward’s brief conquest of Scotland (Bain, II, p. 197).

2.    In the late 1800's, Amos Cruickshank laid the foundations of a great herd of cattle, the Cruickshank Scotch Shorthorn, which would be known the world over. His story is found on this link:

3.   In the early days, Cruickshanks owned the mill at Tybardy (location unknown), and land in Aberdeen, Arbroath, and Murthly (a village in present-day Perth and Kinross).

11.  Flying Officer John Alexander Cruickshank (b. 1920), Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross

12.  Helen Burness Cruickshank (1886-1975), Scottish poet and suffragette

13. Gordon Cruickshank (1965-2021), Canadian ice hockey forward who was an All-American for Providence

14.  Andrew David Cruickshank, early Canadian bush pilot who found members of the Col. C.D.H. MacAlpine expedition marooned in the Arctic. The story is completely narrated in the book Four Degrees Celsius: A Story of Arctic Peril, by Kerry Karram, 2012.

15. Sir Donald Gordon Cruickshank (born 1942). He was  governor of the London Stock Exchange from 2000 to 2003. Sir Donald Cruickshank knighted for public service in 2006. He was a member of the Court of the University of Aberdeen,[12] a governor and chairman of its governance committee[13] He stepped down from the court and governance committee in 2011.
